TALKING FASHION ON POWER FM WITH AZANIA MOSAKA

I was lucky enough to be one of two featured bloggers invited to Power FM presenter Azania Mosaka's midday show a couple of Fridays ago. The other blogger was Thithi Ntetha of teeteeiswithme.com and we spent the afternoon talking about blogging, fashion and other issues. What was most interesting is how the chat naturally evolved into a conversation about what I see as a sore point for the global fashion industry- runway racism. It's real! We also had a frank chat about wearing South African fashion and our thoughts on fashion week, etc. Trust me when I say you have never heard a conversation this honest. Opportunities like this one to just engage about an industry I love very much are very hard to come by and I hope you will take the time to listen to at least part of the conversation and let me know what you think.

ANISA MPUNGWE x MR PRICE

DESIGNER ANISA MPUNGWE AND SUNDAY TIMES FASHION WEEKLY
FASHION EDITOR ROXANNE ROBINSON
I don't know of anyone who is not currently singing designer Anisa Mpungwe's praises following the launch of her limited edition range made in collaboration with Mr Price. I was at the launch on Wednesday night and I couldn't resist buying even though there is no menswear in the range (well, I hardly shop in the men's department anyway). I think everyone in attendance left with at least two items and I am told one of the tops I bought was sold out at the Sandton store by the very next day. At MTV's VJ Search winner announcement event yesterday I think I speak for everyone who saw Bonang when I say she looked amazing in her "Anisa" print top (paired with her stunning Tom Ford boots). Roxanne is holding the top in the picture above.

ELLE MAGAZINE FEATURES WRITER REFILWE BOIKANYO
TRUE LOVE MAGAZINE FASHION EDITOR PALESA MAHLABA
DON'T KNOW THIS PRETTY GIRL'S NAME BUT I
LOVED HER LOOK. NICE AND SIMPLE.

MAX MOGALE IS BEHIND YOU

Went to photographer Max Mogale's exhibition "Behind You" at Ocean Studios in Newtown last night. I didn't take pics of what was going on outside the show space but what a vibe it was! So chilled on a balmy Jozi night. Hipster varbz, vele (sorry to those who don't like being called hipsters, but denial will do you nothing much *shrugs*). Anyway, back to the photography...
Max tells me he asked his subjects to sit in silence for 20 minutes while he snapped them. It may sound easy being silent for 20 minutes but I can imagine how frustrating it could be. There are few pictures I enjoyed but I decided the short hair girl with clouds on her sweater is one of my most favourite. The clouds, for me, reflect the vacant state of mind her face illustrates.

WEAR THE TREND_OMBRÈ

Sometimes keeping it simple is just the right thing to do. Got this Wrangler ombrè shirt yesterday and I immediately fell in love with it. Yes, even Sandiblouse likes men's shirts sometimes!
In case you haven't noticed; ombrè is a French term meaning shades. In fashion it literally means "fading into" either another colour or a shade of the same colour and it's quite trendy, should you be into that sort of thing.

SWAG CITY B****

Yes, yes, yo! That's me. Sippin' some from a coffee cup. This was Cape Town this past weekend. Went to a friend's place from some sip and good people hangin'. Wore one of my favourite cropped jackets by Dolce and Gabbana. Was a gift from a friend, boo, can't afford that swag at the moment, but I am sure working towards doing so one day hopefully soon. Do you like the leggings? Apparently, Mali got them out a goodie bag and when it got cold (as you can see, I was in shorts) he threw them my way to put on and it just worked with the swag. Yellow nail varnish. I've got only a few obsessions (nose grows), chief among them is my nail polish obsession.

PICKIN' PIX IN THE BRAAMIES MIX

There are only a few things I enjoy more about Johannesburg than what Braamfontein has become. There's a very rare cosmopolitan varb that goes on there on Saturdays but most of us tend to stick to the tried and tested Neighbourgoods Market x Great Dane formula, getting drank and stuffing our faces for the better part of the day but there's a lot more to do in Braamies than just that. Anyway, just chillin' out is also a good plan and I did just that about two weekends ago when Jody Brand (@datbitchseyonce) had a photographic exhibition at one of the spaces (forgotten the name) at 70 Juta Street. Jody is a multimedia cool kid and the Main Bitch (in her words) at artist and friend Athi Patra Ruga's studio in Cape Town. She's also what we call a cool-kid-in-transit; people who regularly pop up at the coolest events in both Jozi and Cape Town. I'm trying to be one of those kids, because trust me, you can't get the full experience of what is hip and happening in South African creative indutry without having the in-transit lifestyle. Besides, it's a great way of just generally meeting kick-ass, cultured people.
Anyway. I have a few pics I took on that day. Just for the just. In case you are wondering; Jody is the one with her middle finger up and tongue out Miley Cyrus style. Afro-Missy standing with Jody's photography in the background is Negiste, whom I've known since my varsity days. Oh how old we've grown!

NO RED CARPET, JUST STRAIGHT UP SWAGGIN'!

Got this picture from a Facebook tag. I believe it was taken by a Stylista.co.za photographer. I know I often say "this is my favourite picture" but this one is honestly very high up on my list. The look, which I wore on day 2 of SA Fashion Week, came together in a short space of time and I didn't think it would work but it clearly did. Love it!

ALL SHAPED UP AT SA FASHION WEEK

This is me last night at the 1st night of SA Fashion Week's autumn-winter 2014 collections at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Rosebank, Johannesburg. I wore a dress (yes... a dress) by Missshape. I bought this dress a couple of weeks ago and this was the first time I wore it (my apologies for the low quality image). I felt so chic in it and I have to say the compliments were very much welcome! Got so much love on Instagram. Winning! Problem is; I don't know how I am going to top this. I'm already struggling with what to wear tonight and there's still tomorrow. *sigh*

FACEHUNTER IN JOBURG

Today in the life of moi....
Went to Warm & Glad, that fabu spot on Jan Smuts in Craighall Park, for a Facehunter booksigning hosted by Marie Claire and SA FAshion Week. Yvan Rodic, the Facehunter, imparted a few words about what he thinks of what street style blogging has become. The words that stuck with me are that it just isn't as romantic as it used to be. People go to fashion week, take a bunch of pictures and pass off fashion week style as "street style". Bleak!
As always, it's always a great pleasure seeing the girls from Marie Claire, always such lovely hosts. And thanks to Veuve Clicquot for the world's most fabulous kiss... Lol.

BRUTAL? INDEED...

Don't see me grinning like that and think I was in 7th heaven or something. It was actually quite the opposite. I was asked to style a model as part of the launch of Brutal Fruit's new flavour Mango Goji Fusion. The models would put on a show and the theme was "fashion and dance". Which is all okay until they ask you to walk down the ramp with your model. Oui! It's always nice to be the kid in the background but actually coming out and taking a bow, not knowing what people will think of the ensemble you've put your model in is enough to make one sweat all of their make-up off the way I did. Firstly, we only had about three days to put it all together and secondly, yours truly was not able to go home to change and still make it to the show on time so I had to go and step up on the ramp wearing my daytime rags... Undesirable! Luckily, I was in the company of people who put the emphasis on fun rather than the way one looks. And, two, the fashion show was about having fun and not coming across as some kinda Grace Coddington. The result? A fantastic party with fantastic people! And if I have to say so myself; my model was a riot! Thanks to her I didn't spend the night sulking over what to do if all goes awry. And trust me there were times when I imagined the dress falling apart right before the crowd. Phew! Thank Heavens it didn't and thanks to Brutal Fruit and DNA Brand Architects for this brutally fabulous do. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat!!!
